This tour lasts approximately eight hours. Your local Omani tour guide will pick you up early morning from your hotel as this ensures arrival in Nizwa mid morning. Located one and a half hours from Muscat, Nizwa is the capital of the Interior and used to be the old capital of Oman in the 6th and 7th Centuries. Its imposing fort which was built in the 17th Century is one of Oman’s must see historical buildings. You can take a stroll around its walls and inside, view its old prison cells before entering its famous souq located in the shadows of the forts walls. Here you can view the exquisite copper and silver jewellery and even barter with the local traders for their wares. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to visit the local pottery works at Bahla which is one of the lesser known treasures of the country. Here you will experience local potters and basket weavers displaying their skills. On your way back to Muscat you visit the ruined village of Birkat al Mawz which roughly translated means "Banana Pool", Bananas are still grown in this region but now dates are the fruit which is harvested the most. You will be dropped off at your hotel in the late afternoon.
